Mt Crosby overpass repairs start weeks after wind turbine collision

Almost three weeks since a truck carrying a wind turbine crashed into a bridge over the Warrego Highway, more repairs have finally started.

The Warrego Highway overpass was hit on the height warning sign.

Roadworks are tipped to begin on the Warrego Highway overpass that was damaged when a truck carrying a wind turbine crashed into it.

The truck, which was carrying parts of a wind turbine to a Western Downs project, crashed into the Mt Crosby Rd overpass at North Tivoli last month, causing massive highway delays as crews worked to remove it and assess the damage.

The highway opened days later, but it was clear the bridge would require more significant repairs.

Transport and Main Roads Queensland this week announced those preliminary works are starting to repair the damage.

The western footpath of the bridge will be demolished, the guardrails will be adjusted, the road will be widened to create a traffic lane, and electrical cables will be removed.

The road works will be completed between 8pm and 5am.

During the night works, the northbound lane of Mt Crosby Rd will be closed with a detour through Pine Mountain Road and rejoining via the Warrego Hwy eastbound off-ramp.

The Southbound lane remains closed at all times with a detour through River Road.

The works are anticipated to take about a month.
