One of two men charged in relation to a six-hour siege at a Newtown home in which police allege shots were fired has had his charges mentioned in Toowoomba Magistrates Court.

Morgan Western Troy Mundey, 44, and Peter Mark Gibbs, 35, were arrested after a stand-off on December 21, 2022, that started when police went to an apartment in Park St to serve a warrant on one of the men about 10.45am.

It is alleged one of the men brandished a revolver and threatened police before firing up to four rounds within the apartment about midday.

Police responded by firing a warning shot, and locked down Tor, Park and Dalmany streets, calling in heavily armed specialist police from Brisbane.

Fortunately, no one was injured during the siege and both men were taken into custody without further incident.

Both have been remanded in custody since with Mr Mundey’s matters mentioned before Toowoomba Magistrates Court on Thursday, April 6.

His solicitor Claire Graham, of Skuse Graham Lawyers, told the court she had received the police brief of evidence and asked for a four week adjournment so she could take instructions from her client on that brief.

Mr Mundey, who was already facing a number of unrelated charges, has not been required to enter any pleas to charges of dangerous conduct with a weapon, possessing a firearm, possessing explosives, acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm, possessing dangerous drugs and a drug utensil, receiving trained property and wilful damage arising from that December 21 incidents.

Mr Mundey was not required to be in court and his appearance was excused on Thursday.

Magistrate Louise Shephard remanded him in custody and adjourned his matters for committal mention back in the same court on May 4.

Mr Gibbs remains in custody on similar charges and his matters are due to be mentioned in the same court later this month.
