NOEL Shephard considers the workers of Toowoomba's aged care homes and hospitals to be superheroes, so he decided to make sure they weren't going hungry.
The director of Superannuation Advice Australia was at the Brodribb Home yesterday to witness 100 meals be delivered to staff at the nursing facility as part of the Superfood for Superheroes initiative.
The program, started in light of the COVID-19 outbreak, donates pre-cooked meals made by Wine and Dine'm Catering to nurses and frontline health across Queensland.
Mr Shephard, a former nurse, said the initiative was a way of showing gratitude to workers during a difficult period.
"The idea was to show some support for the frontline workers, facing challenges on a day-to-day basis that a lot of people don't care to understand," he said.
"We think all nurses and ancillary help, whether they're at nursing homes, hospitals or clinics deserve a little recognition.
"We kicked it off and delivered something like 600 meals on the Gold Coast in one day, and put it out to other corporates with interests in the area.
"Every $1000 can create something like 120 meals delivered as a thankyou."
The Brodribb delivery was sponsored by Toowoomba company Steve Collier from MOA Benchmarking, who said it was important to give back.
"When we saw the initiative come through, it was some small way we could express our gratitude for the selfless work that frontline workers perform during this unprecedented time," he said.
Brodribb Home CEO Pam Chipperfield said the staff had been touched by the generosity.
"To have people come along that would do this for the staff, was really uplifting," she said.
"They are all working so hard and so well, they've stepped up and to have something like this happen where it shows people do appreciate them and the work they do."
