Man suffers life-threatening injuries after crash in South Toowoomba on Stephen and West streets

Investigators have revealed the possible cause of a shocking crash in Toowoomba, as a young man remains fighting for life in hosptial.

Police are investigating if speed and inattention were possible contributing factors to a serious crash that put a young man in the Princess Alexandra Hospital intensive care unit.

According to the initial police report, a white 2005 Proton Jumbuck utility was travelling north along West Street when it collided with a black 2011 Honda Cbr250r motorbike near Stephen Street.

Darling Down City Patrol Group Inspector Paul James said the 26-year-old male rider suffered “catastrophic” injuries.

“He is in the Princess Alexandra Hospital with head injuries,” Inspector James said.

It appears from the initial police investigation that the bike was unregistered and the rider was uninsured.

A spokeswoman for the Princess Alexandra Hospital said the man remains in a critical condition.

The driver of the Proton ute, a 77-year-old Harristown man, sustained minor injuries, and is assisting police with investigations.

The Queensland Police Service Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the collision and has called for any witnesses, including people who may have dash cam footage, to come forward.
