Another large number of participants braved chilly conditions and lined up for the annual 40 for Fortey relay at the Toowoomba Showgrounds on Sunday.

The 40 for Fortey event asks participants to complete 40km, either individually or as a team, around a 4km loop of the Toowoomba Showgrounds.

The event is named in honour of Senior Constable Brett Forte who was gunned down in the line of duty by a crazed gunman in bushland at the start of what became a stand-off at a property at Seventeen Mile in the Lockyer Valley in May, 2017.

Sunday marked the fifth anniversary of Snr Const. Forte’s death.

A coroner’s inquiry into his death has been adjourned but is expected to resume later this year.

Snr Const. Forte’s wife Susie Forte took part in the 40 for Fortey run on Sunday.
