Major upgrades have been confirmed for two notorious intersections situated along one of Toowoomba’s busiest roads.

Transport and Main Roads this week confirmed plans were in motion to design upgrades along James Street that will “enhance traffic flow and safety”.

The upgrades will be located at the intersections of the main road and Neil St and Hume St.

TMR confirmed in a statement the changes would include updated traffic signals and turning lanes to reduce what the department described as “high-risk movements”.

Currently, motorists wishing to turn right into either of these streets must cross multiple lanes of traffic in order to do so.

Despite plans being in motion, TMR has confirmed there is no funding in place.

TMR regional director Bill Lansbury said in a statement the upgrades had been identified as a “high priority”.

“The goal of the project is to plan for a safer, more efficient flow of traffic in this part of

Toowoomba,” he said.

“TMR is working with Toowoomba Regional Council representatives to ensure the

upgrades support surrounding local government infrastructure.”
