Hutchinson Builders starts work on $5m Toowoomba CBD unit block near Grand Central Shopping Centre

Work is under way in the Toowoomba CBD on a major inner-city living project that is located just metres from Grand Central Shopping Centre.

Work has begun on a game-changing inner-city apartment block, just metres from Toowoomba’s largest shopping centre.

Hutchinson Builders has cleared the site on Mylne Street in the CBD for a 15m, 12-unit residential block by Toowoomba developers Barry and Mitchell Bernoth.

The $5m development is within 50m of Grand Central Shopping Centre.

Hutchie’s team leader Sean Lees said more than 500 jobs would be supported across the life of the six-month project.

“It’s a great local project, and one we’re happy to be involved in,” he said.

“About 500 people will work on the project locally, at any one point in time there will be between 20 and 50 people on site, that will vary across the life of the project.

“We’re hoping to get it wrapped up by early next year.”

Mr Lees said the development had come at a key moment. With Toowoomba’s housing market “maturing”, that had opened the door for inner-city living.

“The place is getting bigger, I think there has been some great CBD activation over the past half a dozen years and this is just the natural next step towards that,” he said.

“Housing shortages in Toowoomba have been well-publicised so this can only help and offer something different for people who want to be closer to the CBD and enjoy that lifestyle.”
