Nearly 50 polling stations are now open across the Toowoomba region for residents to vote in Groom for the 2025 federal election. Here’s every you need to know:

Groom voters will have about 10 hours to cast their ballots across the Toowoomba region as part of the 2025 federal election.

Nearly 50 polling stations across the federal electorate will be open from 8am until 6pm on Saturday, with about 50,000 residents still to vote.

Who is running for Groom?

Eight candidates are running for the previously-safe (but not yet marginal) conservative seat.

They include incumbent Garth Hamilton (LNP), Labor’s Richard Edwards, independents Suzie Holt and Kirstie Smolenski, the Greens’ Alyce Nelligan, Trumpet of Patriots’ Jamie Marr, Family First’s Alex Todd and One Nation’s Rebecca Konz.

What’s at stake?

The 2025 race has become one of the most compelling local elections in recent memory, largely thanks to the presence of two independents – one of which is highly-backed in Suzie Holt.

Political experts and demographers have also pointed out Groom is only a few points away from becoming a marginal seat, which would open it up to far more attention by the major parties.
