Fresh start off to a poor start with man admitting to fresh charges

He came to Toowoomba for a fresh start which got off to a poor start when he committed fresh offences.

The man’s fresh start got off to a bad start when he returned to old habits.

A NEW South Wales man who moved to Toowoomba to “open a new chapter in his life” has faced the city’s Magistrates Court on burglary charges.

Brady Morris Rollings and moved his family to Toowoomba late last year to afford his children a good education and to start a new life, the court heard.

However, on the night of February 23, he had entered a Kearneys Spring construction site and rummaged through a number of work vehicles.

He took items such as two-way radios, batteries and other equipment from bobcats and excavators but was seen leaving the site and police were called, police prosecutor Rohan Brewster-Webb said.

Rollings pleaded guilty to five offences arising from the incident.

The 27-year-old had subject to a probation order from New South Wales at the time, the court heard.

His solicitor Craig Van Der Hoven, of Creevey Russell Lawyers, told the court his client had criminal history in New South Wales but it was mainly due to drug use and nothing similar to this.

His client had a good work history but had been a stay at home dad in Toowoomba while his partner was the sole wage earner and he had felt he needed to do something to contribute.

“He wanted to open a new chapter in his life,” Mr Van Der Hoven said.

“He hasn’t made the best start.”

Accepting this offending was out of character for him, Magistrate Graham Lee ordered the convictions not be recorded and placed Rollings on 18 months probation.
