Former Toowoomba City councillor Barry Parker passes away

Former Toowoomba City councillor Barry Parker has passed away in his home after a long illness. The keen sportsman served the city for more than 40 years.

Former Toowoomba City councillor Barry Parker passed away peacefully at his Jellicoe St home on September 14 after a long illness.

He was 86.

Mr Parker served the City Council for more than 40 years, ending his career in a senior managerial role before winning election as a councillor in 1997.

The Parker family settled in Drayton in the 1890s, have a street named after them, and gave distinguished service through the council to the city of Toowoomba.

Mr Parker was a keen squash player and a fine golfer who played for the Toowoomba Golf

Club A Grade Pennant team in the late 1960s.

Mr Parker was a prominent bookmaker at Clifford Park racecourse for 25 years and was held in high esteem by the racing community.

He is survived by his wife Sandra. They have three married children: Seamus (married to Eloise), Luke (married to Lucy), and Victoria Terry (married to Peter); six grandchildren: Ruby, Molly, Finn, Arthur, Phoebe, and Franklin; and a great-grandson, Louie.

Barry’s funeral service will be held at St Theresa’s Catholic Church, 55 Curzon St, Toowoomba at 11am, Thursday, September 19.
