One of Queensland’s largest charities has been given the green light to build new accommodation in Toowoomba for people with a disability.
Endeavour Foundation has been approved by the Toowoomba Regional Council for three three-bedroom units on Hursley Road in Newtown, not far from Clifford Gardens Shopping Centre.
According to the planning report, submitted in September last year, the site specifically chosen due to its proximity to shops and services.
“The building envelope comprises of three single storey three-bedroom townhouses,” the report said.
“The development is designed to be fully accessible for people with a disability and provide housing choice in the (Toowoomba) community.
“The development is sought by Endeavour Foundation to provide additional housing for their customers within proximity to the services and public transport of Newtown.”
Council officers approved the units late last month, attaching a $61,000 infrastructure charges notice.
Given the council’s track record with offering discounts, waivers or deferrals of infrastructure charges to not-for-profits or charities, it is likely Endeavour will make an application to avoid paying them.
