A teenage woman who kicked a cop in the face during a drunken tirade in Toowoomba’s CBD has been ordered to do community service to give something back to society.

Police patrolling Margaret Street about 3am on Saturday, November 11, spotted a woman arguing with a man on the footpath near the Cube Hotel, Toowoomba Magistrates Court heard.

When police approached 18-year-old Ella Elizabeth Woods, she started swearing and hurling abuse at the officers, police prosecutor Natalie Bugden told the court.

Ella Elizabeth Woods, 18, appeared in Toowoomba Magistrates Court on December 6, 2022.

Arrested and taken to the police vehicle, Woods continued to yell obscenities at police and struggled when being placed into the police pod, Sergeant Bugden said.

As she was being placed into the back of the police vehicle, the teenager kicked out, striking one officer in the face and leg, she said.

The teenager pleaded guilty to committing a public nuisance offence in the vicinity of a licensed premises, and assaulting and obstructing police in a public place while adversely affected by an intoxicating substance.

Duty solicitor Chelsea Saldumbide, of McConnell Saldumbide Lawyers, told the court the teenager had no criminal history at all and had been diagnosed with mental health issues.

Her client didn’t normally get intoxicated but on this night she was out after a relationship break-up and had little recollection of events, she said.

Woods was a disability support worker who lived at home with her parents, Ms Saldumbide said.

Magistrate Louise Shephard ordered the convictions not be recorded and ordered Woods complete 50 hours of unpaid community service.
