Dominoes Pizza Chinchilla giving away free food ahead of flood water

Residents and business are preparing for the worst as the flood threat moves west and one store it giving away food now rather see it go to waste tomorrow.

Chinchilla residents are preparing for a moderate flood tonight as Charlie’s Creek backs up and low-lying parts of the town are inundated.

Several homes and businesses are already affected, leading to the Domino’s Pizza store giving away free food now rather than see it go to waste later.

The Condamine River and Charlie’s Creek at Chinchilla are backing up and flooding parts of Chinchilla.

Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Shane Kennedy said the creek is expected to peak at the bridge level of 5.2 metres tonight which is about one metre below the 2013 flood level.

“With a moderate flood level homes and businesses in low-lying areas will start to see water on the ground floors,” he said.

The isolated flooding is the result of heavy flows in the Condamine River causing Charlies Creek to back up.

“Traffic routes in town will be affected,” Mr Kennedy said.
