The last time Jeremiah Rivers was seen, he was 20km south of Noccundra at Wilsons River, in the remote, parched outback landscape of southwet Queensland.
That was almost one month ago, at 9.30am on October 18, but his disappearance was not immediately reported by the people he was travelling with.
The 27-year-old’s mysterious disappearance has sparked a widespread search, also with the help of a homicide squad.
Investigators have now released a video of a white Ford Focus (Qld rego 600SZJ) that was involved in fuel drive-offs at a service station on Murilla Street in Miles between 8.30pm and 9.30pm on October 18 and at a Stafford Street service station in Thargomindah on October 19 about 11.50am.
While there is no indication the occupants had direct contact with Mr Rivers and his associates, police have identified that they were in the area when he disappeared.
Police hope that they could provide fresh information to investigators about his disappearance.
The vehicle has since been located in Coomera and seized.
Police allege Mr Rivers and his associates entered Queensland from NSW without a valid Covid border pass and that may be why they did not report him missing sooner.
Detective Acting Superintendent Stephen Blanchfield is heading up the probe with the help of homicide officers.
He appealed for anyone who was in the Wippo Creek – Noccundra area or may have travelled through western NSW and Queensland to Noccundra from October 16 to October 19 to make contact.
“The country out there is extremely remote, and there is not a lot of water or food out there, so we have grave concerns for (Jeremiah’s) safety,” he said.
“If he was hurt and unable to move, we should have been able to locate him by now.
“He is someone who has a fairly high level of skill in this kind of bush area, (but) for him to have wandered off … is very unusual.”
Jeremiah’s mum, Joanne Rivers, has made a plea for information about her son’s disappearance.
“ (Jayo) is one of eight siblings and is loved and cherished by a large extended family,” she said.
“He is an outgoing young man and … it is out of character for Jayo not to contact his family. We are very concerned about this situation.”
