Daryl Toolulla Hippi back in court just days after he was released on parole

A young man suffered a nasty leg wound after he allegedly kicked in a glass door in an attempt to gain entry to a home just a few days after he was released on bail for a spate of property charges.

Daryl Toolulla Hippi was remanded in custody after he allegedly attempted to rob a man just four days after he was granted bail by a Toowoomba Magistrate.

Police allege the 19-year-old Toowoomba man was one of three people who attempted to force their way into a Rangeville home about 3.30am on Sunday,

Toowoomba Detective Senior Sergeant Paul McCusker said police will allege Mr Hippi kicked in a glass door and as he did so the occupant grabbed his leg, causing a deep laceration.

Police further allege that Mr Hippi and two associates demanded that the occupant hand over their keys.

“The complainant declined and the alleged offenders ran from the scene,” Sgt McCusker said.

“One was allegedly seen to be holding a knife and another a torch.”

Police received information that led them to a Grenier Street house about three hours later where they took Mr Hippi into custody.

He was taken to Toowoomba Hospital for medical treatment.

Mr Hippi was charged with attempted armed robbery with violence while in company, entering a dwelling with intent by break, entering a premises with intent and breaching bail.

Solicitor Alysha Jacobsen appeared on Mr Hippi’s behalf when matters were mentioned in the Toowoomba Magistrates Court on Monday.

She made no application for bail and asked for a brief of evidence to be ordered.

Magistrate Clare Kelly ordered the brief be disclosed by February 26 and remanded Mr Hippi in custody with the matter adjourned to March 11.

Court documents show Mr Hippi was granted bail on Wednesday, January 17, after a brief appearance for alleged property offences.

These earlier matters were adjourned to February 14.
