Seeing her six-month-old sister suffer through her first seizure has been burnt into Chloe Bradford’s memory since she was four years old.

From there, the family’s life changed forever, and Ms Bradford’s determination to spread epilepsy awareness started.

“Bridie was playing on her toy piano, and suddenly fell forward. When Mum went to pick her up, Bridie was blue around the lips and started convulsing,” Ms Bradford said.

“By the time the ambulance arrived her first seizure was over.”

March is Epilepsy Awareness Month, and Ms Bradford said it was extremely important for her to help other families after her sister was diagnosed.

“We knew it was epilepsy right from the start, but we just didn't know what type. She was 12 when we finally found out it was Dravet Syndrome,” she said.

“It was one of the hardest things – knowing we have a full, normal life, and Bridie never will.

“Living with epilepsy is a crazy challenge day in day out, sleepless nights and crap days.

“Dad and Mum are the two strongest people I know and manage her epilepsy and the daily challenge so well.”

Ms Bradford has climbed Brisbane’s Story Bridge to spread awareness, and this year, committed to being slimed purple, which Bridie, now 16, was happy to assist with.

Ms Bradford has raised almost $2000 for epilepsy awareness.
