Two people charged with the alleged bashing and robbing of a woman in a Toowoomba home at the weekend have appeared before the city’s Magistrates Court.

Charity Grace Lasserre, 40, and Anthony Noel Facey, 26, are each charged with three counts of assault occasioning bodily harm in company, deprivation of liberty, entering a dwelling with intent by break in company and robbery with actual violence in company.

Police prosecutor Kinsley Weir told the court it was alleged the complainant woman had been given some tools to store at her home but when the accused went to the home on Sunday to retrieve the items they had been moved to another location.

An argument ensued during which it was alleged the complainant woman was grabbed by the throat and punched, held against her will in her bedroom where it was demanded that she hand over her phone, she said.

Senior Constable Weir said the complainant had been able to escape and lock herself in the bathroom but the door had been kicked in and the woman assaulted further before her phone, keys and $20 cash were allegedly stolen.

The 40-year-old woman and 26-year-old man appeared before Toowoomba Magistrates Court charged with assaulting and robbing a woma in her Toowoomba home.

Neither of the accused was required to enter any pleas to the charges and each made separate applications for bail.

Lasserre’s lawyer Michael Corbin told the court his client had a bail address in Newtown and that the matter would have to go up to the higher court which would take some time.

Facey’s lawyer Brad Skuse, of Skuse Graham Layers, told the court the complainant woman had a criminal history and that her evidence would have to be examined as to whether it was credible.

Facey denied any involvement in any violence, claiming he was at the house doing work for the complainant and he had stepped in to break-up the two women during their dispute, he said.

His client was working and had bail addresses in Toowoomba and Charleville and he was willing to live in Charleville and abide by all bail conditions, he said.

Mr Skuse said it was unlikely his client would get a trial date in the District Court this year and he was at risk of spending more time in custody than if convicted of the charges.

Acting Magistrate Patricia Kirkman-Scroope noted all charges arose from “one protracted event” and it appeared the prosecution case was strong.

Ms Kirkman-Scroope granted Lasserre bail with strict conditions including living at the Newtown address provided to the court, report to police each Monday, Wednesday and Friday and have no contact with the complainant or her co-accused.

However, noting Facey was already on bail for other matters, Ms Kirkman-Scroope refused bail and remanded him in custody with his charges and those of Lasserre to be next mentioned in the same court on March 3.
