Toowoomba’s cold mornings look set to continue well into June, but the Bureau of Meteorology is predicting some slight relief ahead of next week.
The Garden City on Saturday morning experienced temperatures well below the May and June minimum averages, with the mercury dropping to 4.4C at Wellcamp Airport.
Meteorologist Rosa Hoff said this was due to southerly winds, which will remain until a new weather system moves in from Thursday.
“The temperatures are likely to continue throughout the rest of this week, but steadily increasing by the weekend,” she said.
“This cool southerly air mass will start to ease off, and one thing that will stop it is we’ll see another weather system moving in.
“(That system) won’t bring too many showers, maybe a small chance of rain.
“The change of air won’t be from the same southerly direction — it will move in from western Queensland and that will mean we’ll start to see air that has been over the land.”
Ms Hoff said that new system will eventually leave next week and will be replaced by more southerly winds.
