A Toowoomba man police allege was involved in two violent home invasions, has applied for bail at court after spending about five months in custody.

Reech David Deng Amol, 20, was charged with a string of alleged crimes following two alleged violent robberies and subsequent car thefts at Newtown and Drayton on June 20.

Mr Amol entered a not guilty plea to two charges of armed robbery with actual violence causing wounding while in company.
However, the court heard he will plead guilty to possessing a knife in a public place, evading police, and the dangerous operation of a stolen vehicle.

No date has been set for his trial, however the court heard it may be in late 2024.

Four people were involved in the consecutive break and enters, where two cars were allegedly stolen and two people were assaulted.

During the Drayton robbery at Luck Street, police allege a man was stabbed in the leg with a knife and hit in the head.

At the Toowoomba Magistrate Court on Friday, December 1, Magistrate Louise Shephard said police prosecution had a strong circumstantial case against Mr Amol in regards to the Newtown break in at Gordon Ave.

Ms Shephard said the alleged robbery at Luck St was not as solid, however the evidence was strong enough for the relevant charges to be committed to trial in the Toowoomba District Court.

Ms Shephard denied Mr Amol’s bail application stating he was “clearly a risk to the safety and welfare of the community”, especially given his violent criminal history.

She said the charges were “terribly serious” and she had formed the view no bail conditions would mitigate the potential risk to the community and other crimes being committed.

Mr Amol was remanded in custody and his case will next be before the court on March 22.

His mother was at court in support of him - the court heard she travelled to Toowoomba from Melbourne to attend every court mention.
