One of rock n roll’s greatest frontwomen will light up Toowoomba this year, as 70s icon Suzi Quatro announced she will play the Empire Theatre in October.
The legendary bassist and singer, known for singles like Can The Can and Stumblin’ In, will hit the Garden City as part of her seven-date Australian theatre tour Rockin On.
Known for her high-energy performances and powerful singing voice, Detroit-born Quatro was a pioneer for women in rock, alongside contemporaries Joan Jett (whom was inspired by Quatro), Patti Smith and Pat Benatar.
While she only enjoyed minor success in her home country, Quatro was welcomed by Australia during the 1970s and 80s.
Her first three albums charted in or near the Top 10 in Australia, with her 1974 sophomore Quatro reaching number 1 — her only achievement for an LP in any country during her career.
“Looking back on my career, 60 years now in the ‘biz’, and now my 40th tour of Australia, I still can’t believe it,” Quatro said on the tour.
“Since my first time in 1974, with two tours that year, I totally fell head over heels for Australia, with the country and the people, everything about it.
“Australia and me? We just love each other, it has been this ongoing affair, and we should never get married.
“I will keep coming as long you will have me. It’s my second home.”
Toowoomba is one of just three regional dates on the tour, alongside Cairns and Townsville.
Suzi Quatro plays the Empire Theatre on October 30. Tickets go on sale from April 16 at www.duetgroup.com.
