Lifeline has helped a dozen Darling Downs young adults to pursue their dream careers through its new work skills program Step Up Into Work.

The project aims to instil the skills and knowledge necessary to successfully enter the workforce in just six months.

Earlier this week 12 trainees were recognised as they graduated from the Skilling Queenslanders for Work program at Lifeline Darling Downs and South West Qld Ltd.

Skilling Queenslanders for Work provides skills development, training and job opportunities to unemployed, disengaged or disadvantaged Queenslanders through a suite of targeted skills and training programs.

During their placement all trainees completed a certificate I in business or administration.

Participants gained work experience at various locations, including Lifeline’s head office, placements within its retail network and at the Lifeline Distribution Centre on Stephen Street

“I personally congratulate all our graduates on this significant milestone and wish them every success in their future endeavours,” Lifeline Darling Downs CEO Derek Tuffield said.

“We at Lifeline Darling Downs were delighted to host these trainees and, given the diversity of our organisation, provide training across many divisions.

“It is our hope that the skills they have learnt will lead to suitable and rewarding employment opportunities.”

Skilling Queenslanders for Work focuses on developing an individual’s skills, supporting them to begin a learning pathway to a certificate III qualification, and providing direct assistance to those Queenslanders that need extra support to enter and stay in the workforce.

Step Up Into Work is one of seven programs that make up the Queensland Government funded Skilling Queenslanders for Work initiative.
