1. Lucy Jackson @lucykatejackson, @lucy_and_nikki_

Followers: 121,000

Lucy Jackson is a business owner, podcast and radio host and content creator from Mission Beach.

Now based on the Gold Coast, Ms Jackson is one half of duo Lucy and Nikki alongside best friend Nikki Westcott, who are known for their hilarious and unfiltered content across all their platforms.

They began their first Instagram page in 2015 called We The Wild Ones, where they shared festival content and fashion. The page, which is now @lucy_and_nikki_, has 168,000 followers.

But they didn’t stop there. In 2018, the duo started fashion label JGR & STN, followed by a hit podcast called Happy Hour.

They have a radio show of the same name, airing on the Hit Network on Friday and Saturday nights, and a wine brand, Jackson West.

“Growing up in North Queensland, life is pretty cruisy, you know. I didn’t have to wear shoes to school in primary school … so it definitely gives you a no-frills approach toward life,” Ms Jackson said of her childhood in the “most beautiful part of Australia”, with weekends spent at Josephine Falls and out “on the boat”.

“Nikki is the same. She grew up in Mount Isa and she also went to uni in Townsville. So we’re just kind of a couple of North Queensland gals who just happen to work in this kind of chic industry,” she said.

While Ms Jackson said as a teen she sometimes “resented” the fact she lived in FNQ, in hindsight she wouldn’t have had it any other way.

“There were moments there where I was like, ‘Oh, if I lived in Sydney I would have been able to do X, Y and Z’,” Ms Jackson said.

“But, now as an adult, I’ve had all the same opportunities I would have had, and I had the most amazing upbringing in the most beautiful part of Australia, going to the reef and swimming in the most beautiful waterfalls. So I’m so, so happy that I grew up in North Queensland.”

Ms Jackson said she considered herself a business owner first and foremost.

“Even if you were to take being an influencer out of it, Nikki and I would definitely still work in the industry we work in and run the businesses we run. The fact that we have a following is just part of it,” she said.

But she said she was extremely grateful for all the opportunities they’d been given.

“At the beginning, we were stoked to get a free T-shirt, and so every step along the way has felt super rewarding because we’ve just enjoyed the journey,” she said.

“It’s not like we woke up one morning with one million followers on TikTok because we went viral … We went to uni and then we worked in the industry for maybe like seven years before we decided to start our own brands, (so) we’ve kind of worked through the ranks. We’ve been the intern, we’ve been the marketing co-ordinator, we’ve been the social media girls.

“It’s been a slow but rewarding journey, and I’m so grateful for that because it just means we appreciate everything so much more, rather than just having it all kind of happen overnight.”

Ms Jackson said that while life was “very busy”, she adored all the roles she held.

“I love the podcast because it is a platform where we can just truly be authentically ourselves, and we have been able to relate to so many girls and women across Australia which is amazing,” she said.

“So that’s probably the most rewarding part of our job. But I love everything – I love doing strategy for the businesses, I love designing for JGR & STN, I love photo shoots – it’s all really, really fun.”
