Updated, Monday: Two 17-year-old boys who allegedly struck a tow truck driver with a stolen Mercedes while the man was standing beside his vehicle, causing leg injuries, were armed with machetes, police allege.

About 8pm Saturday, July 5, the two teens, from Eagleby and Berrinba, allegedly crashed into the tow truck at Ampol Foodary Helensvale (formerly Caltex) while driving an allegedly stolen white Mercedes GLC, Queensland Police said previously in a statement.

The allegedly stolen Mercedes was located about 40 minutes later at nearby Ken Crescent, with the two teens still inside. They were arrested a short time later.

The vehicle was allegedly stolen earlier that morning from an address at Columbus Dr, Hollywell.

This masthead previously reported the tow truck driver told police he had been “challenged” by the allegedly armed pair, before they struck him and his vehicle.

He was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition, suffering leg injuries.

The teens were initially charged with offences including entering premises to commit an indictable offence, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, and receiving tainted property – the alleged driver faced additional charges including assault occasioning bodily harm and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle – but on Monday, Acting Superintendent Michelle Piket revealed they were facing additional charges.

She said the two teens were allegedly armed with machetes and confronted the tow truck driver before ramming him.

However, it would be alleged that the pair committed a number of additional offences, including armed robbery, in the six hours leading up to the tow truck driver being struck.

Offences were allegedly committed at suburbs including Helensvale, Calamvale, Drewvale, and Eight Mile Plains.

The duo were expected to face Southport Childrens Court on Monday.
