A wife’s hunch has led to one northern Tasmanian man finding himself $2.2m richer after checking his Saturday Tattslotto ticket.

The Hillwood grandfather, a town north of Launceston, finally checked his Saturday ticket purchase after his wife heard a division one winner was sold in the local area.

“I’m absolutely rapt, mate!” he exclaimed when an official from The Lott confirmed his newfound fortune.

“My wife heard on Monday that Mowbray newsXpress and Lotto had sold two division one winning entries over the weekend, and one of them was yet to be claimed.

“She came home to me and asked, ‘Did you get a ticket at Mowbray? You should probably go get it checked!’.

“I held off for a while, but then I was at work and curiosity got the better of me.”

The man already has a few ideas up his sleeve on ways to spend his winnings, including continuing to work.

“I currently work a really, really stressful job, and I’m not enjoying it,” he said.

“This will allow me to change jobs completely without the stress.

“I’m going to also finish painting the house and pay it off completely, which is amazing.

“I’ve been talking about buying a new vehicle for about six months, so I’ll buy a new ute.

“I’m also going to be really smart and visit the bank today. I’ll invest and lock a fair bit of it away.

“There’s no doubt I’ll help my children and grandchildren too.”

His winning entry was purchased at Mowbray newsXpress and Lotto, Shop 1, 262 Invermay Road, Mowbray.

Mowbray newsXpress and Lotto owner Sourav Kumar said he was absolutely thrilled to have sold two division one winning entries in the weekend’s TattsLotto draw.

“We’re very excited and so happy to hear our mystery winner has now come forward to claim their prize,” he said.

“I also own Centre Newsagency & Lotto, Kings Meadows News & Lotto, Meadows Mews News & Lotto alongside Mowbray newsXpress and Lotto, so it’s amazing to have wins land there too.

“It was only two weeks ago that we sold a division one winning entry at Centre Newsagency & Lotto, and two months ago at Kings Meadows News & Lotto.”

The winning numbers in TattsLotto draw 4583 on 21 June 2025 were 6, 24, 10, 42, 1 and 30, while the supplementary numbers were 18 and 16.
