Ben Lomond Alpine Resort is leading the charge into the 2025 snow season as the first Australian ski area to open up this winter season.
During the week the mountain’s snow guns roared to life and the team worked around the clock to make the most of the cold temperatures.
Resort director Ben Mock said the Resort managed to achieve its goal of opening on Friday June 6 with the help of modern snow guns.
“We’re used to battling the elements here in Tasmania! Our state-of-the-art snow makers have been a huge game changer in our battle,” Mr Mock said.
He said last year’s conditions were the best seen in years all thanks to the efforts of the “fantastic snow making team”.
“We’re constantly improving how we use the system, and this year we’re set to go even bigger,” he said.
“Snow-making gives us a head start, but it’s also about giving Tasmanians — and travellers from afar — a snow season they can rely on.”
The snow-makers have helped the resort prolong its winter season significantly with the mountain among the first to open in Australia and second last to close in 2024.
Mr Mock said the snow-makers have dramatically improved coverage on the slopes and the team was already planning to add more snow machines.

Bureau of Meteorology senior meteorologist Dean Narramore said it will be a wet and windy start to the week with widespread local showers to be expected on Sunday.
A band of rain is set to sweep across much of South Eastern Australia and Tasmania with snow down to 900 metres likely at the beginning of the week.
