Wood chopping superhero David Foster is about to make Tasmanian pubs and clubs an offer they “can’t refuse” as he comes out swinging in favour of the AFL Devils and Macquarie Point Stadium.

The Tasmania Football Club and Tasmanian Hotels Association were in Devonport on Friday to launch a joint campaign called Coasters and Posters to promote the team.

“Clubs and pubs around the state are going to be getting a visit from David Foster,” said TFC CEO Brendon Gale.

“He’s going around the state making appearances and handling out posters and coasters and no one’s going to refuse, because it’s David Foster, who’s an icon.

“There’s going to be a heap of posters and coasters pledging support for the Tasmanian Devils.

“Community clubs and pubs are hubs of community activity and as a football club we need to harness the energy of the entire state.

“We are a team by Tasmania for Tasmania.

“We really believe in our ability to unite and inspire Tasmania.

“For pubs and clubs to be getting behind us and support the Tasmanians Devils as we continue this incredible journey, we are really pleased.”

Foster, an official ambassador for Clubs Tasmania, expects the free marketing memorability to fly out the door.

“This footy team is about all of Tasmania _ it’s not about North/South,” Foster said.

“It’s about all Tasmanians getting behind a Tasmanian team, that we all deserve.

“We deserve it for the past champions, the current champions and our future champions.

“This is a great opportunity and for me to be calling into pubs and clubs and venues around the state is to let people know that.

“This is not just a Hobart thing, this is a Tasmanian thing.

“We can learn so much from the JackJumpers and how they have come through and I see all these little kids coming through [playing basketball].”

Fosters’ footy heart lays with St Kilda, influenced by the Saints’ Tasmanian premiership captain Darrel Baldock, like Big Dave also Devonport.

“The Devils are going to be my second team but my grandkids and great grandkids can have the opportunity to barrack for a Tasmanian team,” Foster said.

“I’m a Tasmanian, born and bred Tasmanian. I became a world champion athlete living in Tasmania, so why can’t we have a world-class facility, built in Tasmania so us Tasmanians can benefit.

“People will come here, so it will create an opportunity for more cafes and the pubs and clubs can employ more people.

“I’m really pleased to get out there and promote a Tasmanian team because football brings people together and this is our opportunity to have our own Tasmanian team.”
