The $5bn Marinus Link undersea power cable will officially go ahead after the Tasmanian government signed a deal with the Commonwealth to give the project the green light.
Speaking on ABC Radio on Friday morning, Energy Minister Nick Duigan said he signed the agreement on Thursday evening and it had “resulted in a significantly better deal for Tasmania”.
“It’s a really historic day. This is a massive deal for Tasmania and our future energy security, our energy supply. But also the Tasmanian bottom line and prosperity for our state,” he said.
