Person extracted from crashed car
UPDATE 2.17pm: Police have confirmed the remaining occupant of the Bruny Island single car crash has been extracted and transported to hospital.
Emergency services remain on the scene of the reported crash on Lighthouse Road, South Bruny, with the person transported to the Royal Hobart Hospital by helicopter in a stable condition with non-life threatening injuries.
Police said the two remaining occupants are reported to have received minor injuries only.
Traffic is now open to one lane however all emergency services remain on scene with the vehicle until further notice.
Motorists are asked to continue to avoid the area if possible however will be able to pass through if necessary.
Passenger trapped in vehicle on Bruny Island
1.33pm: One person remains trapped inside a vehicle with serious, non-life threatening injuries on Bruny Island after a crash on Monday.
Police and emergency services responded to a report of a single vehicle crash on Lighthouse Road, South Bruny.
Police said two occupants are out of the vehicle however one occupant remains trapped and is suffering from “serious non-life threatening injuries”.
Motorists are advised that Lighthouse Road in the vicinity of Sharps Road will be closed until further notice.
Police advise the public to approach that area with caution and seek an alternate route of travel.
Pair rescued after fall from cliff face into water
January 27, 8.10am: Emergency services have rescued a man from waters off the Tasman Peninsula on Sunday after he and his partner fell from a cliff face.
Tasmania Police said a man in his 20s was rescued at 5pm on Sunday after straying from the Mount Brown walking track on the Tasman Peninsula.
The two people are from Europe and fell off a nearby cliff when they strayed from the track.
Police said the female sustained minor injuries, but was able to swim back to land.
However, they said the man was washed further out, with the Westpac Rescue Helicopter, local Police and local marine resources dispatched to the area to assist with locating and rescuing him.
At around 4:50pm, Police said the man was rescued about 200m from shore by a vessel from the Pennicott Wilderness Tours and was taken to Port Arthur.
“The man was taken by the Westpac Rescue Helicopter to the Royal Hobart Hospital with suspected hypothermia, and his female partner was also taken to the Royal Hobart Hospital for minor injuries,” police said in a statement.
“Police and Rescue Services would like to praise the members of the public who assisted with rescue and for the vital information they provide as the situation unfolded.”
Constable James Blay of Nubeena Police Station also said the incident was a reminder of adhering to marked tracks, stating the “ending could have been a lot worse” for the rescued walkers.
Police investigation into Sandy Bay Road crash
6.33pm: Initial police investigations have revealed that an elderly man crashed into an unoccupied vehicle before being transported to hospital in a serious condition.
Tasmania Police said they are continuing to investigate the Sandy Bay Road crash that occurred at 2pm on Sunday, involving a gold Kia hatch.

The crash occurred in the vicinity of 850 Sandy Bay Road.
Police said the driver of the Kia, a man in his 80s, was transported by Ambulance to the Royal Hobart Hospital where he remains in a serious condition.
“Sandy Bay Road was closed for around 2.5 hours to allow crash investigators to examine the scene and conduct inquiries,” police said in a statement.
Anyone with information or relevant dashcam footage, is asked to contact police.
Motorist in serious condition after Sandy Bay crash
January 26, 3.58pm: One person is reported by police to be in a “serious condition” after a two-vehicle crash in Sandy Bay.
Police arrived at Sandy Bay Road between Pearces Park and Cartwright Reserve after 2pm on Sunday to a serious two-vehicle crash.
Police said they remained on scene into the afternoon, stating one vehicle had rolled.
“One person is being transported by Ambulance to the Royal Hobart Hospital in what is reported to be a serious condition,” police said in a release.
Both lanes between Pearces Park and Cartwright Reserve are closed to traffic, with motorists asked to seek an alternative route until the scene is cleared.
At this stage it is anticipated the road will remain closed for another 45 minutes.
Person injured after crash between truck and car
10.05am: An injured person involved in a crash between a truck and car on the Tasman Highway at Scamander is being flown to hospital, police say.
Emergency services remain at the scene that is just south of McManus Drive.
There was no update on the severity of the injuries or if anyone else involved in the incident was hurt.
The road remains blocked to motorists.
8.40am: A person is believed to be injured after a truck and a car crashed on an East Coast highway.
Emergency services are attending the incident on the Tasman Highway at Scamander, just south of McManus Drive.
Police said the road is blocked and motorists have been asked to avoid the area until it’s cleared.
Officers say the severity of injuries of the person reportedly injured is not yet known.
Teenager seriously injured, others hurt in northern crash
January 24, 8.20am: A teenager spent the night in hospital after sustaining serious injuries in a crash at Kings Meadows yesterday evening.
Police said the crash between a silver Holden Commodore sedan and a white Mitsubishi Triton dual cab ute occurred at the intersection of Blaydon and Guy streets about 8.30pm.
The 17-year-old boy was a passenger in the Commodore and an ambulance took him to the Launceston General Hospital following the incident, police confirmed.
Officers said several other people sustained minor injuries.
Police are continuing to investigate the incident and have asked anyone who witnessed the crash or either vehicle prior to contact them on 131 444.
Rider injured in crash south of Bicheno
11.45am: Paramedics will transport an injured motorcyclist to a location where they can be flown to hospital after an East Coast crash.
Police have confirmed the rider sustained injuries and would be flown to hospital.
The crash that was a kilometre south of Bicheno on the Tasman Highway has been cleared.
January 23, 11.05am: A motorcycle rider is believed to have sustained injuries that are not life-threatening after a crash south of Bicheno, police say.
Emergency services are attending the incident on the Tasman Highway around one kilometre south of the East Coast town, with it unknown if another vehicle was involved at this stage.
Police warn motorists in the area are set to face delays until the scene and have asked drivers to avoid the area.
Tasmanian man faces series of sex crimes allegations
January 22, 3.20pm: Police allege a 35-year-old man has committed a series of sex crimes in southern Tasmania last weekend.
Officers said the man was arrested in Moonah on January 18 and faced multiple charges.
Those charges include allegedly conducting prohibited behaviour, loitering near children, secreting himself near houses and unlawfully possessing women’s underwear.
The man has been remanded in custody and is set to appear before the Hobart Magistrates Court on February 21.

Fatal crash involving motorcycle on West Coast
8.09pm: Tasmania Police have confirmed the person seriously injured in a crash on the West Coast was a motorcycle rider who later died at the scene.
It has been confirmed the crash at Gormanston involved a motorcycle and a vehicle towing a caravan about 1.50pm, 2km south of Linda.
Emergency services remained at the scene late yesterday.
The road between Lake Burbury and Queenstown was closed while a crash investigation was conducted, but reopened late Tuesday.
January 21, 2.10pm: A person is believed to be seriously injured after a crash involving a motorcycle on the west coast, Tasmania Police say.
Emergency services are on the scene of the incident on the Lyell Highway at Gormanston, around 2km south of Linda.
It is unknown whether another vehicle was involved in the crash.
Motorists have been asked to avoid the area until the scene is cleared.
Police calling for info into weekend shooting
January 20, 4.21pm: Police are calling for information from the community as they continue to investigate a shooting at Herdsmans Cove on Saturday that left a man with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.
The incident occurred around 5pm on Saturday at Calvert Crescent, with police stating that at this stage of their investigation they believe the incident was targeted.
Police also said the shooting was believed to have occurred between two people who “are known to each other”.
The injured man, aged in his 30s, was transported to the Royal Hobart Hospital where he remains in a stable condition.
Police asked anyone who has witness information, CCTV or dash camera footage of the area around the time, to come forward.

Tasmania Police say “family home” at centre of Rokeby fire
2pm: Tasmania Police have said a family was at the centre of a fire at a Rokeby home on Sunday, after a baby died and five others were taken to hospital.
Tasmania Police Inspector Darren Latham spoke to media on Sunday afternoon, stating that investigations into the fire were still in the early stages.
“We believe that it was a family home and everyone inside is understood to be related,” he said.
“There may have been some smoke inhalation of those inside the home at the time of the fire.
“We can’t rule anything in or out yet, but we are not suggesting it’s deliberately lit at this stage.”
Mr Latham said there not yet an indication of the cause for the fire, nor was he able to confirm the age of the baby that passed away at the scene.
He said the other adult taken to hospital in a serious condition received an arm laceration which was not believed to be life-threatening.
The other child taken to hospital remains in a critical condition.
Mr Latham also commended nearby residents of Benboyd Circle, who rendered assistance to those injured.
12.34pm: An baby has died and another young child has sustained serious injuries in a Rokeby house fire on Sunday.
Fatal structure fire, Rokeby
Police and emergency services were called to the fire on Benboyd Circle, Rokeby shortly after 9am on Sunday and found the house “fully alight”.
A baby was found deceased inside the residence while another young child and an adult were taken to the Royal Hobart Hospital with serious injuries.
Three other children were also taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
TFS fire investigators said they will conduct an investigation to determine the cause of the fire and police will prepare a report for the Coroner.
Tasmania police said its thoughts and condolences were “with everyone affected”.
Rokeby house fire well alight
UPDATE 10:20am: Several people have been taken to the Royal Hobart Hospital while some are being treated at the scene of the Rokeby structure fire.
Police and emergency services remain at the scene of a structure fire in Benboyd Circle, Rokeby.
Benboyd Circle remains closed and motorists and pedestrians should continue to avoid the area.
9.30am: Police and emergency services have been called to a Rokeby structure fire early on Sunday, with fire crews from three stations in attendance.
Tasmania Fire Service (TFS) crews from Clarence, Hobart and Rokeby are in attendance at a fire at a Benboyd Circle property, with the fire “going well”.
Police have closed the road to all traffic and pedestrians and ask motorists and members of the public to avoid the area to allow emergency services to respond to the incident.
Police investigate “targeted” shooting
9.05am: Tasmania Police are continuing to investigate a “targeted” shooting in Herdsmans Cove on that left one man with a gunshot wound.
Police were called to the area on Saturday at 4.50pm after receiving reports a person had been wounded.
Police conducted searches at a residence in Herdsman Cove overnight and at this stage of their investigation, said it is believed to be a “targeted incident”.
The man received a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.
Police and emergency services were called about 4.50pm yesterday after reports a person had been wounded.
All roads in the Herdsman Cove area have now been reopened to the public.

Man charged after Alum Cliffs fire
January 19, 8.50am: Tasmania Police have charged a man after responding to a fire near the Alum Cliffs.
Police said a 32-year-old man has been charged after emergency services were called to a fire at Alum Cliffs, near Harpers Road, Bonnett Hill about 4.00pm on Saturday.
On arrival, police said a section of vegetation was well alight.
The fire was attended by several Tasmania Fire Service units and due to the dry vegetation and wind direction took about two hours to bring under control.
“Deliberately setting fires is a reckless and dangerous act that puts lives at risk and causes considerable damage to property. It also places an unnecessary strain on our emergency services,” Senior Constable Brouwer said.
“People who deliberately light fires will be held accountable for their actions.”
The man was charged with unlawfully setting fire to vegetation and was bailed to appear in the Hobart Magistrates Court at a later date.

Person injured after oven fire extends into roof
2.25pm: Multiple crews rushed to a structure fire in Hobart’s northern suburbs.
Upon arrival Hobart, Bridgewater and Glenorchy firefighters found a fire had started in the oven that had extended into the roof space, TFS confirmed.
The incident that occurred on Main Rd, Montrose, resulted in one occupant receiving burns to their hands.
Paramedics were also on the scene and treated the injured person.
Multiple charges laid following police chase
January 18, 10.40am: A 39-year-old was caught by police after his white Holden Commodore was successfully spiked, officers say.
The man is facing numerous charges including firearms, breach of bail and dangerous driving after leading police on a chase with officers earlier reporting he allegedly dodged them in Kingston.
Officers said they were made aware of the man following reports of an armed person in Redwood Rd, Kingston around 2.15 on Friday.
Police said the man then left the area in the Commodore.
“A co-ordinated response resulted in the successful spiking of the vehicle which was located abandoned a short time later in Tolmans Hill,” police said.
“Police subsequently searched the area and located and arrested a man police will allege was the driver of the vehicle.”
The man has appeared in the Hobart Magistrates Court on Saturday morning.
Police said no one was injured during the incident.
Anyone who has information or vision of the white Holden Commodore in the Kingston and Tolmans Hill area between 1.30 and 2.30pm on Friday is urged to speak with police.
Chopper deployed after alleged evade at Kingston
3.30pm: Police have caught a man, who is now in custody, after an alleged evade incident in Kingston.
Officers no longer believe any other people were involved, having initially suspected two other men were linked.
A search for the man, who is believed to have dodge police while driving his white Holden Commodore with a black spoiler at Kingston, used extensive police resources, including the rescue helicopter.
The search area extended as far as South Hobart after police suspected the man fled to Tolmans Hill.
Police thanked the community for their support and patience throughout the investigation.
3.05pm: Police are searching for two men believed to be involved in an alleged evade incident at Kingston.
Resources, including the rescue helicopter, have been deployed in the search for the male driver who is believed to be wearing a blue shirt, tan pants, running shoes and holding a bum bag, police say.
Officers believe two other males are also involved.
Police allege a white Holden Commodore with a black spoiler failed to stop for police on Redwood Rd, Kingston about 2.15pm before the driver fled the scene at Tolmans Hill.
Authorities are now searching the Tolmans Hill and South Hobart areas for the man.
Officers said they were following a specific line of inquiry.

Update, 1.46pm: The two people who were being treated in a crashed car have been taken to hospital.
Police believe their injuries are not life threatening.
The single vehicle crash on the Tasman Highway, Cambridge has now been cleared after diversions were in place.
January 17, 1.10pm: Emergency services are on the scene of a difficult rescue following a single vehicle crash on the Tasman Highway, Cambridge outside the golf course.
Two people are considered to be seriously injured, police say, with paramedics and fire crews working to treat the two who remain in the vehicle.
Police have diverted traffic with the incident affecting both lanes. Traffic is being diverted at Penna Rd and Kennedy Drive in both directions while emergency services remain at the scene.
