They work seven days a week and now Tasman Peninsula couple Ella and Daniel Kelleher are sharing their passion for producing wine with the opening next week of a cellar door at their winery.

It has been hailed as a significant boost for visitors to the Peninsula and also locals.

The energetic couple, who have two young boys, will showcase not only their own pinot noir and Pinot gris at the cellar door in their former home, but also an array of local wines, spirits, craft beers and produce.

They planted their first grapes at their Premaydena cattle farm in 2018 and toasted their first bottle of wine from the crop in 2021.

Not one to do anything by halves, Ella went to TAFE to study viticulture and Daniel set to work on learning how to produce wine with the aim of producing 20,000 bottles a year.

Daniel said those in the industry described it as “addictive” and he agrees.

“It is completely addictive, it’s awesome,” he said

“You’re working outside. It’s a fast growing plant so you never get bored. It’s fantastic.”

“It’s quite a unique opportunity to showcase local products when you can actually see form our beautiful site the farms in which they’re grown and made.

“People can enjoy the views and have a glass of wine or coffee or cake.”

The cellar door will be open seven days a week during summer from this Thursday in their former home, which was built in 1910.

“It’s got a lot of history, it’s got a lot of character,” Ella said.

“It’s a personal space that we have really fallen in love with and the perfect place to host and to show people the farm and what we have to offer.”

Tasman Mayor Rod Macdonald said the opening of Premaydena Hill’s cellar door was a “welcome addition to the visitor experience in our region” and also locals who could enjoy great wine and food produced on the Peninsula.

“Importantly, this is the first fully-integrated winemaking operation on the Tasman Peninsula, with all Premaydena Hill’s wine being made and cellared locally,” he said.

“This new venture is a clear demonstration of the growing confidence of investors to set up in our region.

“Businesses such as Ella and Daniel’s provide the perfect option for visitors to ‘do the loop’ around the Tasman Peninsula as part of their holiday adventure.

“Other experiences such as the McHenry’s and Impression Bay Distilleries and of course the Coal Mines Historic Site are located on the western side of the Peninsula and provide a compelling reason to stay an extra day.”

Mr Macdonald said it would complement Bangor on the Forestier Peninsula.

“For Tasmanians generally, the growing number of experiences in the Tasman municipality provide an ideal opportunity to come and spend a full weekend or several days of their holidays in the Tasman region.”
