Scott Bellinger: Launceston man allegedly drove five times limit

Tasmania Police allege a NTFAW Div 1 coach who runs a top electrical company was busted driving just shy of five times the legal blood-alcohol limit on a busy highway.

A third of drink and drug driving offenders come from these two professions

Tasmania Police allege the coach of an NTFAW Division 1 team who is also the chief executive of a top electrical company drove nearly five times the legal blood-alcohol limit on a busy highway.

Devon Hills man Scott McKechrie Bellinger, 49, appeared in Launceston Magistrates Court on Monday charged with exceeding the prescribed blood-alcohol limit and driving under the influence of liquor.

Police allege both offences occurred on March 8 on the Midlands Highway at Youngtown.

Mr Bellinger is alleged to have returned a reading of 0.243 per cent, just shy of five times the legal blood-alcohol limit.

Mr Bellinger is the current coach of the Meander Valley Sunettes NTFAW team, which lost its grand final against South Launceston on Saturday by nine points.

He is also a past president of the Perth Magpies Football Club and was the chief executive of South Launceston firm ETCS Electrical and Fire.

It’s understood he has since left the role to head up a different firm.

Defence lawyer Matthew Williams successfully sought a first-appearance adjournment for his client to November 10.

Mr Bellinger is yet to enter a plea for the two charges.
