Sam Graham Sokolski in court over Herdsmans Cove attempted murder charge
A Herdsmans Cove man has appeared in court charged with attempted murder as his family called out messages of support from the public gallery.
A Herdsmans Cove man has briefly appeared in a Hobart Court charged with the attempted murder of another man who was left with serious but non-life threatening injuries to his head and neck.
Sam Graham Sokolski, 29, appeared before Magistrate Chris Webster from custody in the Hobart Magistrates Court on Wednesday, charged with a total of 26 offences, including attempted murder, possession of firearms and ammunition when not licensed and possession of cannabis and methylamphetamine or ice.
Police will allege that Mr Sokolski, alongside another man, shot a man at a Calvert Crescent property in Herdsmans Cove on January 18 this year.
Police will also allege that Mr Sokolski and others involved are known to each other, and that the incident was targeted.
Lawyer Luke Brett sought a further mention date for some firearms and drugs offences which Mr Sokolski has been granted bail.
Family and friends of Mr Sokolski also appeared in the court, calling that they would “see him soon” and that they loved him.
Mr Brett then asked for a date for the court to hear a bail application on the charges of one count of attempted murder, one count of possess a firearm when not the holder of a firearm licence of the appropriate category and one count of possess a shortened firearm.
Magistrate Webster granted a further mention date, but said Mr Sokolski’s lawyer would need to file a bail application with the court before a hearing date would be arranged for the matter.
Mr Sokolski will appear in court again on December 9.
