TASMANIA’S newest world champion, Rob “Razor” Wilkinson, has posted on social media for the first time since winning his world title and $1.5m in prize money.

Just nine days ago Wilkinson defeated Russian Omari Akhmedov to claim the Professional Fighters League light heavyweight championship.

On Saturday he posted a number of pictures with friends and family enjoying their time in the Big Apple captioned “Cheers New York. Now to catch up on a week’s sleep in Mexico.”

Wilkinson was sporting a nice black eye as a result of the fight, a fact that didn’t go unnoticed by his followers on social media. Wilkinson is expected to head home for Christmas in Tasmania after a break in South America.

When he returns it will be to a hero’s welcome at his gym, Hobart’s Hybrid Training Centre.

Fellow gym member and Hobart City Council alderman Simon Behrakis said the gym had already covered the front windows of the training centre with a large floor-to-ceiling image of the fighter.

Mr Behrakis said Wilkinson was an inspiration to all those that trained there.

“He is a really nice, down-to-earth guy,” Mr Behrakis said.

“Despite his high level....he helps out around the gym and makes everyone feel comfortable.

“I couldn’t be happier for the bloke.”

But it won’t be just at the gym Wilkinson will be welcomed – the 30-year-old’s TKO win has been lauded by fans and commentators across the state and nation.

Speaking after the historic win, he said: ”The million dollars is awesome but this belt is something I’ve been dreaming of for 10 years.”
