Police found more than they bargained for when a shed fire led to the discovery of a secret drug stash.

Tasmania Fire Service and Tasmania Police were called to the fire at a Bellerive address at about 1pm on Wednesday.

Crews from Hobart, Rokeby, and Clarence were tasked to the scene where they contained the fire.

A witness from the scene said officers then pulled “a couple’ of large cannabis plants out of the property.

Officers were seen to complete paperwork on the scene, as the plant was laid on the footpath.

A Tasmania Police spokeswoman said while the cause of the fire was undetermined, it was not believed to be suspicious.

“A police caution was issued after a cannabis plant was located,” the spokeswoman said.
