New Service Tasmania app launched to simplify licence and registration renewals
Tasmania has launched a smartphone app allowing residents to renew licences and vehicle registration online, with nearly 200,000 people already using the web version.
A new Service Tasmania smartphone app will make it easier to renew licences and registration and will expand to include online access to more services over time, the state government says.
Premier Jeremy Rockliff officially launched the myServiceTas app in Hobart on Thursday.
The app is available on the Apple and Android app stores and is an expansion to the myServiceTas web portal launched in April last year.
Mr Rockliff said the Tasmanian Government is making it easier and faster for people to renew their driver’s licence or vehicle with the implementation of the new app.
“Over 192,000 Tasmanians now have a myServiceTas account, which confirms that online options are a popular choice for many people,” he said.
“There have been 168,000 vehicle registration renewals, 26,000 licence renewals, and almost 10,000 new drivers signed up for Plates Plus.
“We will continue to expand the services available on the app over time, including temporary upgrade permits for heavy vehicles and connecting to the Marine and Safety Tasmania portal for boat licencing, registration, and moorings, as well as online identity verification for Working with Vulnerable People renewals.”
“As the festive season approaches, we all have plenty of things to get done, so download the app and tick another task off your list.”
Service Tasmania Director Andrew Wilford said the app would grow and expand as new services added over time.
“We’ve been running myServiceTas as a web portal, we’ve already seen nearly 200,000 Tasmanians sign up for a myServiceTas account, which shows there’s a real demand for digital services,” he said.
“Our long-term vision has been to create a single digital front door to government services, much in the same way as sites like this have operated as a single physical front door to government services since 1998, when Service Tasmania first opened.
“The app has been the most requested feature since we’ve been operating about a year, and that’s why we’ve really prioritised this development to make sure that Tasmanians can access their services simply, quickly and securely.”
Happy Service Tasmania customer Anita Fitze said the app has helped her to sort out hr motor vehicle registration quickly and easily.
“Having the app and being able to use it, just recently in the last couple of weeks, to renew my registration has been super easy,’ she said.
“Having the FaceID to log in securely has been great, and being connected to Apple Pay as well has been super easy to use on the app.
The myServiceTas app complements Service Tasmania’s 27 centres, phone services, and website.
