THE Liberals maintain a comfortable and widening lead over the Labor opposition, the latest opinion polling shows.

The EMRS state voting intentions poll for November shows only minor changes among the sample of 1000 voters surveyed.

Support for the Liberal party was up from 41 per cent to 42 per cent since August, support for Labor was down from 31 per cent to 29 per cent and the Greens went from 13 per cent to 14 per cent.

The Liberal result is the highest recorded in surveys this year. Labors’ is its lowest.

Premier Jeremy Rockliff remains preferred Premier with 46 per cent of voters, down one percentage point. Opposition leader Rebecca White was also down one per cent to 34 per cent.

EMRS’ Managing Director Paul Jamrozik said the poll reveals voters were sticking with the familiar.

“These latest results indicate that Tasmanian voters are not shifting their support to any notable degree away from the preferences they expressed in the last poll and, indeed, throughout the past eight months,” he said.

“Since March 2022, the fluctuations have been extremely small, within one to three percentage points, and well within the margin of error. And this has been across the board.”

“Compared to this time last year and to all of 2021, Labor has narrowed the gap. It was trailing the Liberal Government in voter support by 23 points in December 2021, compared to between nine and 13 points throughout 2022.

“Beyond that, Labor does not seem to be gaining further ground.

“Standing in February 2021 at 7 per cent and climbing since then to 16 per cent currently, the trend for the moment that may be particularly worth noting, and watched closely by all three major parties, is the steady growth in voter support for another option, such as an independent.”
