The state government will provide more than a million of dollars’ worth of funding to Carrick-based music festival Party in the Paddock if re-elected to government, securing its future until 2027.
$1.5 million will be invested over the next three years, with $500,000 going towards fire system upgrades for the festival site at Quercus Park.
Premier Jeremy Rockliff said events like Party in the Paddock provided an important boost to the state’s tourism and hospitality sectors.
“Party in the Paddock is a homegrown festival started by a handful of mates who have worked hard to deliver what has become Tasmania’s premier music festival,” he said.
“The event showcases local talent and vendors and brings international artists to the state.
“Events like this draw visitors from all over Tasmania and interstate, and provide a huge boost to our tourism and hospitality sectors.”
Last year’s festival drew more than 12,000 attendants, with over 10 per cent travelling from interstate and overseas, the government said.
About 500 people stayed offsite in paid accommodation, with an average night stay of 9.8 days.
At a volatile time for the industry, Vibestown director Ryan Limb said the funding secured the festival’s safety.
“Government support is absolutely critical to keeping the music and arts alive, especially in regional areas,” he said.
“We’re proud to see Tasmania championing live music and the arts when it matters most.”
