Travellers waiting patiently for their flight to depart from Launceston Airport will notice new retail, food and beverage options from Easter onwards.
As part of a multimillion-dollar revamp, the check-in hall will have Liv-Eat, a new all-day cafe, a modern bar, and an expanded main retail store with an additional 120m2 of floor space.
Launceston Airport CEO Shane O’Hare said the new offerings would showcase the best of Tasmania.
“The award-winning design of our new check-in hall reflects the beauty of Northern
Tasmania through architecture and now these new partnerships will ensure the rest of the
airport celebrates the amazing food and culture of the region as well,” he said.
“We think we have the best views of any airport in the nation, and these new venues will
harness that to give our passengers one of the best airport dining experiences Australia has
to offer.
“This has been the largest tender process in the airport’s history and positions us well for the
future, as we look to serve more than 1.75 million passengers by 2030.”
The airport’s new food & beverage partner, SSP, will oversee the delivery of the three dining options.
“Launceston Airport is a vital gateway for Tasmania, and we are excited to contribute to its
vibrant dining landscape,” SSP Australia and New Zealand Managing Director Dominic Cain said.
“Our new concepts will not only serve travellers but also celebrate the rich culinary heritage of the region.”
Further south, Hobart Airport CEO Norris Carter said its upgrades were tracking along well.
“Hobart Airport is in its expansion era, with a $130 million airfield upgrade, $200 million terminal redevelopment, and $20 million for the carparks, forecourt and road network,” Mr Carter said.
“The construction of the airfield upgrades started last month, and the terminal work is well underway, adding to the huge local high-vis workforce that travellers can see working around the clock across our site.
“The world wants what Tasmania has to offer, and we’re committed to doing everything we can to meet the demand for Tasmania as a destination and as a producer.”
