Health Minster Jacquie Petrusma has suffered an injury that has laid her low during her bid for re-election.
Ms Petrusma issued a statement on Thursday revealing she had suffered “a serious proximal hamstring injury”
Ms Petrusma said the injury required her to seek treatment at the Royal Hobart Hospital’s Emergency Department.
“Following medical advice, I will be undergoing urgent surgery and will need to rest, use crutches and recover at home for the next six weeks, before commencing rehab,” she said.
“While you won’t see me out and about over the coming weeks, I remain very committed to our campaign and serving the Tasmanian community during this time.
“I will continue to do all I can to engage with our community and to hear their insights, concerns, and ideas over the phone, even though I cannot meet face-to-face.
Ms Petrusma expressed her gratitude to the doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, radiographers and all the other healthcare professionals at the Royal Hobart Hospital who cared for her.
“Their treatment and care have been faultless and are a wonderful testament to the health workers strong dedication and commitment they have in our hospitals.”
