Foo Fighters announce exclusive one-off Australian stadium show in Tasmania
Rock legends Foo Fighters have chosen Tasmania for their only Australian concert, bringing their epic show to the Apple Isle next month in “a sign of things to come” for big stadium shows if Mac Point gets the tick.
Tassie has proven we can lure world-class names for a show under stadium lights, with rock icons the Foo Fighters jetting into the state next month — their only Australian show.
The 15-time Grammy winners will bring their epic ‘Take Cover’ live show to Launceston’s UTAS Stadium on Saturday, January 24, 2026.
As the fate of the Macquarie Point Stadium reaches its pinnacle in the Legislative Council, Stadiums Tasmania boss James Avery says securing one of the biggest artists in the world to play an exclusive one-off concert here in Tasmania was “a major coup”.
“Foo Fighters are one of the most popular and enduring musical acts on the planet and to have them play a stadium concert in Launceston is a sign of things to come for Tasmania,” Mr Avery said.
“Hosting an artist of this calibre proves that Tasmania can deliver events of a national and international standard while retaining the unique character that sets us apart.
“This is a band with a true sense of community and a history of performing surprise events in a variety of regions and we know Tasmanians, and indeed fans from around Australia and beyond, will love this unique concert event.”
The January show will be the first time the band has performed in Tasmania in 11 years, having sold out the Derwent Entertainment Centre in March 2015.
The American rockers were last on Aussie soil in November/December 2023, playing sold-out stadiums in Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane to mark their 11th studio album, But Here We Are.
Frontier Touring said it wasn’t the first time the Foo Fighters have played an exclusive one-night-only Aussie show, breaking a stadium gig drought in the wake of the Covid pandemic in Geelong in 2022.
“It’s been a decade since they were last in Tasmania, and it’s huge that this summer will be their first ever concert in Launceston,” Frontier Touring CEO Dion Brant said.
“January 24, 2026 will be a night for the history books and we can’t wait to see fans locally and from afar enjoy this one-off show with the legendary Foo Fighters.”
The band has a unique connection to Tasmania, with frontman Dave Grohl having written The Ballad of the Beaconsfield Miners in honour of megafan Brant Webb, who blasted the Foo Fighters underground on an iPod to drown out the sound of drilling as he and Todd Russell were being rescued.
Grohl also promised the trapped miners “two tickets to a Foos show, anywhere, and two cold beers waiting for you” when the ordeal was over.
Supporting Foo Fighters will be two rising Aussie bands: Brisbane rockers Full Flower Moon Band, and Launceston psych trio Spooky Eyes.
Fans will likely hear some classics like My Hero, Everlong, Best Of You, Monkey Wrench, The Pretender, Times Like These and many more.
“We are particularly grateful for the support of the Tasmanian Government as well as the City of Launceston that enabled us to secure this event, in what is a truly collaborative effort,” Mr Avery said.
Tickets for the one-off Launceston gig go on sale to the general public on Wednesday, December 10 at 4pm. Telstra Plus members can access pre-sale tickets from this Friday, December 5 at 12pm, with Frontier members pre-sale starting Monday, December 8 at 1pm.
