Tasmanian company TT-Line Company Pty Ltd is now the proud owner of Spirit of Tasmania V following a handover ceremony at Rauma Marine Constructions’ yard (RMC) in Finland on Wednesday evening.

The vessel, built as a new ferry to cross the challenging open sea route between Geelong and Devonport, was officially accepted by TT-Line director and retired Rear Admiral Steve Gilmore on behalf of the company.

“This marks a significant milestone in our journey,” TT-Line CEO Chris Carbone said.

“We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the dedicated project team members who have overseen the design, construction and delivery of the vessel, both in Australia and Finland.”

The Spirit, alongside its sister ship Spirit of Tasmania IV, will replace current Spirit of Tasmania vessels built in Finland in the 1990s.

Rauma Marine Constructions CEO and president Mika Nieminen at the ceremony said he wanted to thank TT-Line for the “excellent cooperation” that brought the project to a successful end.

“The vessel represents the strong shipbuilding expertise found in Rauma and demonstrates the capabilities of the Rauma shipyard,” he said.

“I also want to say thank you to our cooperation partners and the Classification Society. Next, we shall proceed towards the production of electric ships.”

It comes as the Spirit of Tasmania IV vessel ran sea trials on the ship prior to a planned trip to Tasmania from its current port in Leith.
