Seasonally themed doughnuts might excite customers when they visit a popular Hobart doughnut store, but they say it’s the flavours everyone knows and loves that keeps them coming back for more.

This month, Queens Pastry is getting spooky for Halloween and lining their cabinets with ganache spider doughnuts, lemon curd doughnuts topped with a pumpkin meringue and a tasty jam filled mummy.

But traditional favourites such as the classic cinnamon doughnut, a traditional glaze or the popular strawberry glaze is what has gained the cafe a loyal customer base.

The store was voted as one of Tasmania’s top doughnut destinations in the delicious 100. Best of the Best competition and Queens Pastry head baker Danica Barwick said it isn’t just the decorations or toppings that make their doughnuts world-class.

“It’s all in the dough, we reproof it twice in the morning,” Ms Barwick said.

“We do have our traditional flavours and mix it up every now and then to keep it exciting, because that’s what keeps people coming in.”

Front of house manager Lily Frankham said the store already “feels the love from Hobart” as they flock to the store to grab a sweet treat.

“The consistency of the regular flavours and regular favourites keeps everyone coming back,” Ms Frankham said.
