Shark attack victim Daniel Christidis remembered as ‘humble’ young doctor

The young Melbourne doctor killed by a shark in the Whitsundays earlier this month has been remembered by heartbroken family for his “gracious spirit” and “beautiful smile”.

Heartbroken family members of shark attack victim Daniel Christidis have paid tribute to the young doctor after his death in the Whitsundays.

The 33-year-old urologist was killed when a shark attacked him in Cid Harbour, off the coast of Whitsunday Island on November 5.

Daniel’s grandmother and aunt expressed their grief in two tributes in Monday’s edition of the paper.

“Words cannot express the deep sadness and loss I am feeling,” wrote Fay Christidis, Daniel’s grandmother.

“Your beautiful smile and the joy and happiness we shared together, I will forever cherish.

“You will forever be in my heart, my loving grandson Daniel. Love you always, your grandmother.”

Daniel’s aunty Helen Christidis said: “A handsome gentleman, your humble and gracious spirit will never be forgotten.

“You will always be an Angel of Light in my heart. Thank you for the love, laughter and joy you have given to us all.

“I will miss you. Love you.”

Dr Christidis and a group friends had just started a five-day sailing trip around the Whitsundays when the devastating accident occurred earlier this month.

The group had anchored in popular Cid Harbour on Monday evening when Dr Christidis and a friend began taking turns on a stand-up paddleboard.

At about 5.30pm, after Dr Christidis hopped off the paddleboard and into the water and was ­bitten on both legs.

He also suffered wounds to his wrist, according to Queensland police.

Two doctors in the group immediately began trying to resuscitate their friend while they waited for emergency services.

He was flown to the Mackay Base Hospital but died a short time later.
