Victorian man Kallan Ford has bail revoked in Adelaide after allegedly raping unconscious woman near Hindley Street

The married Victorian manager was arrested in Adelaide after his alleged victim managed to fight back and drag him to police, a court has heard.

A married man allegedly raped an unconscious woman on Hindley Street before she managed to fight back and drag him to police, a court heard.

Victorian general manager, Kallan Ford, 38, is now in custody after the alleged assault was captured on CCTV footage.

Mr Ford was previously granted bail in the Magistrates Court but the Crown applied to the Supreme Court to have the decision reviewed.

In his bail review hearing last month, the court heard the alleged victim, who had consumed around 10 alcoholic drinks, recalled walking to a nearby convenience store on the corner of Morphett and Hindley Street in the early hours of May 22.

Amy Fisher, for the prosecution, said the alleged victim also recalled having nitrous oxide with Mr Ford, who she had never met before, before passing out.

“She awoke some time later to find the defendant having penetrative-vaginal sexual intercourse with her,” Ms Fisher said.

“She eventually managed to rouse herself and fought back and attacked the defendant, ripping his shirt and then dragging him down onto Hindley Street where she ultimately flagged down some police who were patrolling the area at 7.37am that morning.”

Ms Fisher said the alleged incident was captured on CCTV footage.

“It shows, what is, in my submission, nobody in the defendant’s position and nobody with the defendant’s state of mind could have had any doubt about the fact that she was entirely unconscious and therefore incapable of consenting to any sexual acts,” she said.

“The defendant can then be seen moving very slowly and carefully, the inference being that he was doing so as not to rouse her.”

“He can also be seen looking up on several occasions. Again that inference being he is checking to make sure that no-one is around.”

The court heard Mr Ford allegedly removed the woman’s pants and underwear before raping her.

“The footage clearly shows that the complainant is unconscious throughout this entire incident,” Ms Fisher said.

Mr Ford, of Plenty in Victoria, is charged with rape and indecent assault.

Ms Fisher said they opposed bail, due to him being a significant flight risk, as well as submitting it was an “inevitable” conviction that would carry a lengthy jail term.

James Marcus, for Mr Ford, told the court his client had no prior convictions and lived in Victoria with his wife and four children, where he was the major breadwinner.

Mr Marcus said Mr Ford worked as a general manager for a pipeline company and it would cause “considerable difficulties” within the workplace if he remained in custody.

The court heard Mr Ford, as well as his parents, could each offer $15,000 cash surety if he was released on bail.

Justice Rachael Gray revoked Mr Ford’s bail and adjourned the case until August.
