A young Murray Bridge man who was viewing pornography for “four to five hours a day” posted more than 1000 “sickening, depraved” videos and images of child exploitation material on a vile website he was hosting, a court has heard.
Troy Steven Adam Lang, 26, appeared in the District Court on Monday for sentencing after pleading guilty to 27 different child sexual offences across an 11-month period throughout 2023 and 2024.
Judge Michelle Sutcliffe told the court Lang “bragged” to users on a messaging app about stealing a young relative’s underwear, and said he wanted to abuse babies.
“You shared material and engaged in depraved, sexualised chats about children,” Judge Sutcliffe said, adding she would not repeat details of his “sickening” chats.
“I consider the most serious of the offences count 2. That offence involved you providing the phone number of your young relative to an undercover operative to facilitate nudes being obtained from that child and provided to you. That offending involved a high level of depravity.
“You encouraged one account user to ‘act on his fantasy’ to sexually abuse his own daughter, and sent to him two images saying it was to ‘help you get in the mood’.
“You also told this group that there ‘should be a pedo tinder’ and you wished it was normal to love kids. You asked if anyone in the group had any limits as you had material depicting babies.
“You suggested (to a user) that together, you start a family and find a house in a remote location with a basement where you could both ‘do everything to the children and keep them quiet’. You suggested you’d need to avoid hospitals and have homebirths, and not register your children.”
In September, prosecution submitted Lang’s behaviour was “escalating” prior to his eventual arrest in January, as he began taking photographs of girls around a local caravan park he was living in.
On Monday, the court heard Lang received two images of a clothed child from an account user and, using a software, manipulated the images to remove the child’s clothing and add breasts to the image.
During sentencing, Judge Sutcliffe acknowledged Lang’s autism diagnosis but noted it was “not a primary cause” of his offending, and that his childhood was instead “corrupted” by exposure to pornography at the age of five – with “chronic viewing” leading to him eventually accessing child exploitation material.
Lang was sentenced to seven years imprisonment with a non-parole period of five years, seven months and six days – backdated to January 8, 2024.
