Tom Alexander Biko Reid and Carla Lorraine Potter face court charged over bag of drugs and almost $40k cash

Police are alleged to have discovered a discarded backpack containing various drugs and almost $40k in cash while attending a car crash.

An inner north eastern suburbs couple have faced court after a car crash led police to allegedly uncover a large sum of money and illicit drugs.

Tom Alexander Biko Reid and co-accused partner Carla Lorraine Potter appeared in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Tuesday facing multiple charges of drug trafficking.

The court heard that Police attended the scene of a vehicle crash in April this year with reports the male driver was allegedly observed disposing of a backpack and leaving the scene.

Prosecution alleged the bag included methamphetamine, cocaine, MDMA, ketamine and unspecified prescription drugs labelled with Mr Reid’s name, alongside $39,800 in cash.

Police attended Mr Reid’s Northgate address – where Ms Potter also lives – and began a search and allegedly located further drugs.

Mr Reid was serving a three year suspended sentence at the time of the alleged offending.

He is charged with five counts of trafficking in a commercial quantity of a controlled drug and six counts of trafficking in a controlled drug and trafficking in a large commercial quantity of a controlled drug.

Ms Potter is charged with five counts of trafficking a large commercial quantity of drugs.

Mr Reid is also facing one count of money laundering.

Counsel for both parties made unobjected applications to vary the bail of both their clients, with Ms Potter requesting to have home detention conditions removed and Mr Reid requesting to be released from custody on home detention bail.

Magistrate Lynette Duncan requested a report into the suitability of Mr Reid for home detention, and Ms Potter’s behaviour while remanded on home detention.

Ms Potter and Mr Reid will return to court later this month.
