‘The whole Fleurieu Peninsula’ helped find Molly, now she’s been killed in an alleged hit and run

Just a few months ago a community rallied to help find a beloved missing dog, now she’s been killed in an alleged hit and run.

Beloved Fleurieu pet killed in 'awful' incident

A beloved blue heeler that had “the whole Fleurieu Peninsula” searching for her has been killed in an alleged hit-and-run incident, four months after she was returned.

Molly, the blue heeler, was skittish, running scared from loud noises and finding gaps in the fence at her owner’s Currency Creek home.

About 4pm on March 11, Molly’s owner, Dylan Apap, 37, was working at the Goolwa Hotel when he got the call from his dad saying she’d gotten out and that someone had hit his pet dog with a ute on Alexandrina Rd before driving off.

“It was awful, it just feels really c**p,” Mr Apap said.

“Two people pulled over because they saw it happen. But the car that hit her just drove off.”

Mr Apap said his family had been trying to reduce the speed limit of Alexandrina Rd from 80km/h to 60km/h, but nothing had been done.

He hoped it could be reduced to stop something like what happened to Molly happening again.

Molly became a well known dog in the region after going missing in Port Elliot in November.

Mr Apap was stopped out the front of the Port Elliot Bakery when she jumped from an open car window and fled, staying missing for 10 days.

A Facebook post 10 days after Molly went missing went viral in the region, and she was found within 20 minutes of the post going live.

“It was awesome, it really felt like the whole Fleurieu Peninsula was looking for her,” Mr Apap said.
