A short term boarding kennel for up to 30 dogs in Golden Grove – which would hold weekend “dog parties” – has been approved despite concerns from neighbours with anticipated barking, waste and its “associated” smells.

Emilia Jaworek’s application for ‘Doggy Daycare’ in Aristotle Close was approved by the City of Tea Tree Gully Council’s assessment panel earlier this month.

It will be open from 6.30am to 6.30pm, Monday to Friday, with “dog parties” for up to three hours between 9am and 2pm on weekends on an “ad hoc basis”.

It would employ up to four staff and host up to 30 dogs who would have separate enclosures based on their size and an exercise area, all under a main roof.

However, three local residents opposed the development, taking issue with noise, waste and its “associated smells”.

Residents in support of the business said it was needed with a lack of availability of similar ventures in the area.

Council staff said the business would be within an employment zone, which anticipates “activities that generate noise as would be found in a light industrial area”.

“The acoustic report provided does also capture the “annoyance” of dog barking and the potential impact of this on the locality,” a panel report stated.

“The report provides minor alterations to the building to reduce the noise impact to an acceptable level.”
