Speculation has been rife for months that all was not right between Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom.
One of Hollywood’s most high-profile couples, they officially called it quits this week, announcing the sad news while the US singer is in Adelaide for the Australian leg of her Lifetimes tour.
But the news wouldn’t have come as a surprise to their fans, with Perry and Bloom reportedly on the rocks for some time.
Here are seven signs we knew their relationship was in serious trouble.
Kangaroo Island holiday
Bloom was noticeably absent from Perry’s much-publicised KI holiday with daughter Daisy – that was until this week when he shared a series of snaps from the island on social media. Daisy featured in at least one Instagram story but Perry was nowhere to be seen as a shirtless (and happy-looking) Bloom soaked in some sunshine on a KI beach.
Katy’s space mission
From all reports, Bloom was dead against Perry’s involvement in Lauren Sánchez’s Blue Origin space flight in April. The all-female mission into space went viral and drew praise from fans but Bloom apparently did not approve. He reportedly blasted it as “embarrassing” and “cringe-worthy” during a fight with the singer.
Bezos-Sánchez Wedding
While Perry is finishing up the Australian leg of her Lifetimes Tour, Bloom is flying solo at this weekend’s wedding of the year between billionaire Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez, held in one of the world’s most romantic cities, Venice, Italy. Never a good sign.
Katy skips fiance’s movie premiere
When Bloom’s latest flick, Deep Cover, premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival earlier this month, Perry was missing in action. Obviously the Firework singer was busy touring Down Under but those in the know said it was telling that Bloom walked the red carpet minus his partner of nine years – especially when she attended his last movie premiere the previous September.
Katy’s concert revelation
Was it an offhand remark on stage or a subtle acknowledgment of a recent major life event? During one of Perry’s Sydney concerts this month, she was given a pack of Tim Tams biscuits while in the middle of performing 2008 track, I’m Still Breathing.
“This song is about a break-up, and this Tim Tam saved me. Thank you,” Perry told the crowd, only fuelling speculation that she and Bloom were on the verge of splitting.
Social media silence
Bloom has been a regular fixture on Perry’s Instagram account, which has an incredible 203 million followers. In August last year, she posted a photo of the pair together with the caption: “Like the stars are in the sky, you and I will find each other in every single life.”
But the British actor has been conspicuously absent from her account this year. Bloom has not featured on Perry’s grid for over nine months, and tellingly, they didn’t exchange Valentine’s Day social media posts this year – the sixth anniversary of their engagement.
No nuptials
Neither Perry nor Bloom would have been rushing to walk down the aisle, given they each have a failed marriage behind them. And a long engagement doesn’t necessarily suggest anything untoward, but it has been six years since Bloom proposed to Perry in a helicopter in February 2019. In 2022, Perry floated the idea of a destination wedding … but nothing eventuated. So what were they waiting for?
