A western suburbs man was watching the tennis when he unknowingly became a multi-millionaire, scoring the nearly $2.5m jackpot in the Saturday X Lotto Draw two weeks ago.
The West Lakes man held one of the two national division one winning entries in draw 4541, drawn on January 25.
He landed the $2,473,272.71 cash prize.
“I still can’t believe it,” he said to Lotto officials, who were eagerly waiting for him to check his ticket then come forward, after they were unable to reach him.
“We were watching the tennis while the Lotto numbers came up. I usually get up and check, but I was too engrossed in the game.
“Then I completely forgot about them and went to bed. I checked my ticket early the next morning and lots of confetti came up.”
The elated man initially thought he had only won $2500, before he realised the cash prize was “a lot more than that”.
“I thought that was pretty good and then I went ‘hang on’,” he said.
“My heart started racing and I started jumping around and yelling. All the normal stuff you’d expect to do when you win $2.5m.
“I couldn’t sit down. It was a different feeling to anything else I’ve ever experienced.”
He said he was looking forward to putting his new winnings towards his house.
“It still hasn’t sunk in, but we do know it’ll help us do a few things,” he said.
“We’ll definitely be using it towards the house.”
He purchased the ticket at West Lakes Lotteries Kiosk at West Lakes Shopping Centre, Brebner, West Lakes, with the winning numbers 12, 8, 34, 15, 28 and 21.
Kiosk owner Pat Sepe congratulated the winner and said they’re excited to see one of their customers snatch up the division one prize.
“We were so excited! It always gives me great pleasure to see one of my customers strike it big and have their lives transformed!” he shared.
“I’ve already let the entire team know about the winning news, and we’ve been sharing the excitement with all of our customers. Our store is decorated with balloons and posters!
A northern suburbs woman also took home a million dollars prize, after winning last night’s Weekday Windfall draw.
The Salisbury woman was the only one in the country with the division one winning entry in the Weekday Windfall draw 4500, drawn on Monday.
She will take home the $1m cash prize.
She received the call from Lotto officials when she was on the bus, and let out an elated scream while “shaking like a leaf”.
“I can’t believe it. I’m a millionaire. I’m going to cry,” she told Lotto officials.
“I’m so happy. I’m shaking. I’m on the bus right now and I can’t help but scream to everyone that I’ve won.”
The mother purchased a 14-game QuickPick through The Lott app, and said the news left her “so overwhelmed” and was thrilled to share the news with her Mum and Dad.
“It sounds crazy, but I’ve been watching some horoscope things on YouTube, and they’ve been saying I will be rich and lucky around now.
“I can buy a house! I’ve got my daughter here and we’re so happy. This is everything to us.”
The winning numbers were 36, 10, 9, 37, 14 and 31, while the supplementary numbers were 29 and 11.
