The state’s key union has continued its public campaign against Coalition leader Peter Dutton ahead of Port Adelaide’s first home match on Saturday.

The state’s key union has continued its public campaign against Coalition leader Peter Dutton, taking to the Adelaide Oval footbridge ahead of Port Adelaide’s first home match on Saturday.

SA Union volunteers were spotted on Saturday afternoon spruiking its “Don’t Risk Dutton” message, handing out flyers attacking the federal Opposition leader.

The union, which represents 160,000 members across the state, says Mr Dutton is a threat to workers’ rights and wages.

This year’s federal election has yet to be officially announced but it’s likely to be called for May 3.

SA Unions secretary Dale Beasley said they have been talking to workers and voters all over the country for months. He said they had a “great response” today from footy fans heading to the Power’s first home game against Richmond.

“Here in SA, we’ve been holding workplace meetings, talking to commuters, fringe goers and footy fans as well as letterboxing and doorknocking,” he said.

“We’re throwing the kitchen sink at this, because there’s so much at stake for working people to lose under a Dutton government.

“We had a great response from footy fans today, thousands took our materials and many people told us how worried they are about the cuts to penalty rates and cuts to workplace flexibility that a Dutton government would mean.”

The Premier’s office has been contacted for comment.
